Sail 8
"Worse things happen at sea," Granny used to say when I was growing up and I used to wonder what she was talking about.
This weekend I finally found out when I got sent on a stormy 14-hour Channel crossing to report on Sail 8, Bob Geldof's bid to bring French G8 protesters to Britain on a flotilla of boats.
I left Gosport on Friday night bound for Cherbourg with the four-strong crew of the Supertaff yacht. Heavy weather turned back many other boats and the four that did make it found no-one waiting to travel back with them.
